The term kinetic is derived from the Greek word 'kinos', which means to move. The term mechanical is a popular word in chemistry and its related field called chemical physics.In molecular physics, kinetic energy refers to the force of motion within the molecules that is required to move the molecules themselves. This force is known as the 'kinetic, potential energy'. Kinetic energy is the energy that can be stored in the chemical bonds and is used to translate chemical forces into motion in the molecules.Kinetic potential energy is typically a specific quantity that is measured in a formula for particular types of molecules. This particular formula represents a representation of the bonds of molecules. The formula tells you what the bonds of a certain chemical species should do. If you knew the bond energies of all molecules, you could construct a model for the molecular behavior of a variety of chemical species.Kinetic potential energy can be positive or negative. It can be defined as the amount of kinetic energy that is needed to make a molecule move at one time (one cycle), or it can be defined as the amount of potential energy that a molecule possesses at any point in time (one phase).As well as the kinetic, potential energy of the bond, there is also the kinetic energy of the electrons in the atoms. They too are considered potential energy carriers. There is also the potential energy of each proton in the atom. These are important, but the factor that dominates the bulk of the chemical forces is the potential energy of the bond that gives each molecule of a substance its molecular structure.Kinetic potential energy is measured in Joules per second. The definition of the hydrogen molecule is - kJ/mol (4) This is similar to the definition of chemical energy in kinetic energy potential energy and can be used to define other molecules. A physical property of the molecules that is necessary to their being a part of the chemical bonds is their boiling point. The boiling point of the molecules in water is about 100K, which is known as the 'aqueous'water' boiling point.Kinetic potential energy can be used to describe the motion of the water molecules in the liquid in which they reside. You will see that with the help of equation, the relation between the mass of the water molecules and the potential energy needed to accelerate them is used to calculate the average water molecule rate of deceleration. A common value used in fluid dynamics is equivalent mass - 'EM', where E is the normal force.

Exam stress and the science behind it Most of us have, at one time or another, sat down in front of an exam paper and experienced a ‘mind blank’, sweaty palms, the panic setting in and the loud incessant ticking of the clock on the wall as the minutes begin counting down. This form of stress is called exam anxiety, and some of us are more sensitive to it than others. Stress is a natural response that evolved to protect us from danger. When we are faced with a stressor, a hormone is released which causes a few physiological changes; our heart pumps faster to supply our muscles with more oxygen; our blood pressure increases and we begin to sweat, preventing us from over-heating due to the body’s increased metabolic rate. Although this evolutionary advantage is superb at preparing the body to tackle a bear (or run from one!) it’s not the most conducive when it comes to sitting exams. According to findings by psychologist Martyn Denscombe, teens suffer exam anxiety for four reasons: The consequences associated with the outcome of the exam e.g. educational or occupational. Their self-esteem with regards to the outcomes of their grades. (Students who have higher grades are more likely to have higher self-esteem.) Family and friends judging their performance. Fear of disappointing their teachers. So, what can you do? If you are feeling the effects of exam anxiety, breathe slowly and deeply, and have a drink of water. This can help stop the stress response and rehydrate the body. Try and remember that a test is never worth the physical strain you are putting yourself through. Teachers, family and friends sometimes forget the effect of saying; “You need to get ‘x’ in this exam, otherwise it will be difficult to ‘xyz’.” These kinds of statements and advice can increase the pressure on a student. It may be helpful to sit down with your friends, family or teachers to discuss the realistic outcomes of your upcoming exams to alleviate the pressure you may be feeling. Why does our mind blank? How can we prevent it? When we are under excessive stress or experiencing exam anxiety, our body releases a stress hormone called cortisol. As part of our evolutionary response, it helps us adapt in ‘fight or flight’ situations. Studies have shown that cortisol impairs the speed of our memory recall, causing that mind blank before or during an exam. Research has shown that there is 50% more cortisol in the blood stream if we only manage to have 6 hours of sleep, instead of 8 hours. So,  it is vitally important to head to bed earlier during revision and the night before the exam. A healthy nutritional diet, regular meals and plenty of water can also help keep your cortisol hormone at a natural level and help you to concentrate during revision and on the day of the exam. Exam anxiety before the exam As humans, we learn from past experiences. Those who endured an incredibly stressful test in the past can build up expectations of how they expect future exams to be, causing lots of stress during the lead up. This more chronic form of exam anxiety can cause high blood pressure, and weaken your immune system, leaving you to feel very run down. If you feel as though you are more susceptible to exam stress, it is useful to identify this early on (easier said than done!). With the help of your family, teachers, friends and tutors, identify your stressors (areas that are difficult and cause you stress) and make a plan for your final weeks of revision. What the Chancellor Philip Hammond declared was, according to a treasury source, `the most ambitious post-16 education reform since the introduction of A-levels 70 years ago.` Mr Hammond unveiled new `world class routes` - qualifications which will be equal to A-Levels, but specifically designed to benefit those entering the job market. In simple terms, these proposals state that the number of technical qualifications (currently approximating an astounding 13,000) will be streamlined down to a mere 15. It is hoped this simplification, and codification of the practical, specific job related qualifications, will both encourage more students to take them up, and provide them with real skills for their profession of choice once they leave school. The chancellor has spoken of a `productivity gap` standing between the UK, and other developed nations, both in Europe, and further afield. Speaking in the House of Commons last year Mr Hammond made the shocking statement that a UK worker takes five days to produce what a German worker can make in only four. Even this may be a generous ratio, as the Chancellor went on to say that The UK `lags behind` Germany and US productivity by 30% `We lag behind the US and Germany by some 30 percentage points. But we also lag France by over 20 and Italy by 8,` the Chancellor went on to say - concluding these figures `have to change if we are to build an economy that works for everyone.` The introduction of 15 new qualifications - T-levels - as they are being called, certainly seem to be germane the change the chancellor was speaking of. A major financial investment was also part of his new proposal: 500 million pounds a year will be allocated to ease the introduction of the new courses, and ensure they become a ongoing feature of the secondary school education system. Specific details about the new T-Levels are currently scarce, but it is likely that engineering, construction, and manufacturing will be amongst the course offered. Courses focusing on business management are also possible, along with administration, hospitality and catering. Teenagers will be taught the fundamentals of actually running a business, managing staff, dealing with finances. These new courses certainly seem like a step in the right direction for the UK`s education system, especially with so many businesses complaining that school leavers are often completely lacking in any practical, work related skills. Thanks to an economy that has grown quicker than was expected in the latter quarter of 2016, the Chancellor is expected to have access to an extra 12 billion; and it is expected some the funds will be used to attenuate losses inflicted on small firms by the rise in business rates. A large portion of this money is planned to be safeguarded, kept back just incase the economy suffers during the Brexit negotiations. It seems the Chancellor intends to rise technical training, and practical job related skills, up to an equal level as University education. This certainly seems to be a laudable strategy: the UK has a chance to seize the Brexit opportunity, and become a stronger manufacturer. A source at the Treasury has said: `Now that we`re leaving Europe, we really need to up our game on this stuff. We cannot wait. We will soon be competing with every other country after Brexit.` At the moment the UK`s productivity lags shamefully behind other developed nations; but with a workforce possessing more practical skills, this disappointing placement can hopefully be improved. From the Desk of a CEO... Bill Meeker, President of NACM Tampa Inc William (Bill)  Meeker, President and CEO of NACM Tampa Inc., wanted success and he  achieved it. It was not handed to him, and he had to work extremely hard to reach his goals. Though he had limited formal education,  Bill fused his studies and life experience with his tireless determination. In 1974, at the age of 26, Bill became the youngest Executive VP in the country. He would go on to turn a failing office into a prosperous, long-lasting company. He achieved this by taking risks, remaining honest, and upholding high values and standards. I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Meeker regarding his education and subsequent success in business. His story is intriguing and although he encountered many challenges, he continues to reap the benefits of his hard work: What made you decide to go to college? I have one year of college. I was drafted in 1968 and did not return to school. I did take one full year of accounting in 1972 after I was employed by NACM Dayton (Ohio). What obstacles did you face while you were in college? I tried to transfer schools when I was drafted. My tenure in the Army was valuable as I gained much needed maturity and I was given a computer job which helped me to obtain employment when I was released in 1971. What gave you the determination to stick with it? I was determined to work hard and move into management training. I worked many long hours and was promoted to collection manager in 73. Being the youngest [Executive VP] and with little education, I was bound and determined to make the office successful in the NACM family. The staff was behind me and we had 6 years of growth and recognized success.    Do you feel like your education helped you excel in business? If yes, how so? Even though my education was limited, several classes were beneficial to me, especially accounting. As I gained experience, I knew that my abilities were just as good as a graduate. It was apparent that dogged determination, courtesy, respect, and good common sense were key factors for success in business. Bill Meeker (dressed as pirate on left) and his staff dressed up for Halloween When you took over NACM, what gave you the willpower to see the business through even though our country was in a state of financial turmoil? I took over the Tampa office in 1980. The manager was very ill with cancer and the office was failing. It took over 10 years of hard work to finally turn the corner for success. [With a partner we began building our own software in 1992 and I hired a strong team].  We went through 2 recessions but our groups that were not related to construction pulled us through… I realized that a diverse income stream is vital in order to tolerate dips in the economy. So, from 2000-2003 I purchased [5 companies] which make up our corporate family today. We already owned NACM Inc and NACM Services. My father gave me all of his stock in General Motors to use as collateral for our first computer loan. I promised him that he would never lose it and that promise was my stimulate for success.      What advice can you give to anyone looking to become successful in running a business? Hire people that are smarter than you and treat them like family. Never give up, no matter how difficult your challenge might be. Use good common sense; be very honest in your business dealings and with employees. Remember, victory is never final and defeat is never fatal.   If you must sacrifice, issue it to yourself before you must give it to your employees.
